HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) The remainder of the high school basketball season is in limbo.
In Indiana, games have been suspended in the regional round. In Kentucky, the boys Sweet 16 has been postponed and the girls Sweet 16 has been suspended.
The Henderson County Lady Colonels won the 2nd region championship this year and were suppose to play Marshall county in the opening round. Jeff Hailes’ team was already in Rupp Arena preparing for their game when they got word the tournament was being suspended.
Haile says his team was devastated. Haile says, “They were just really upset. A lot of crying was going on. And to get something taken away from you, it hurts pretty bad. Especially when these kids work so hard. Their emotions are so high. We just told them life, life is not fair sometimes and you just have to handle it. We just have to pray for the people that are suffering, that are sick, through this disease. Hopefully this will all go away soon and we can go back to playing basketball.”
The KHSAA says they still hope to play the tournament.
