EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) Hello everybody, we are here for Hockey 101. I’m Jeff Bes, head coach of your Evansville Thunderbolts. Today we are talking slashing.
Slashing is one of the most common and important penalties because every player carries a stick in the game of hockey and the stick can be used as a weapon.
Slashing is when you hit a player with your stick forcefully enough to cause a penalty. The penalty can range for 2, 4, or 5 minutes depending on the severity of the injury.
One of the most common slashing penalties you will see is when a player uses his stick to hit another players hands and he loses the puck. That’s a slash because it is impeding the progress of the opposing player. I’m Thunderbolts head coach Jeff Bes and that’s your Hockey 101 for this week. Happy holidays.
