EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Home Team Friday’s Countdown – Week 1

(Randall Parmley)
“Welcome to week 1 of the home team Friday countdown, it feels good to be back in football mode. If you are not familiar with how countdown works Michael Gilbert and Chad Lindskog from the Courier and Press are standing by, ready to break down three of the biggest games of week 1. We will talk about Memorial at Jasper, Heritage Hills at Mt. Vernon and Reitz taking on Henderson County. “

“Lets bring in the guys now, Chad, welcome back, and let’s get started. Our first game is the Home Team Friday Showdown. Memorial at Jasper tomorrow night. Mike, what’s the new look for the Tigers tomorrow night.”

(Michael Gilbert)
“In the words of green bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, tigerland should r-e-l-a-x. John hurley’s team is fresh off a 3A state championship run, they return a core of starters, and will be okay without former star QB Michael Lindauer magic. This memorial squad has enough tools to be dangerous in the SIAC and beyond. Guys like Brock Combs could have another monster year on the defensive end too. I like memorial over jasper in their Week 1 match up.”

(Chad Lindskog)
“For just the third time in 60 years, Jasper has a new coach. Former Reitz and Henderson coach Tony Lewis will kick off a new era in Jasper, where the football team hasn’t finished with a losing record in 30 years. The Wildcats would like to go out with a bang to close the Big Eight Conference before they join the SIAC, but they’ve struggled with Memorial of late, dropping three straight meetings after winning the previous 11.”

(Randall Parmley)
“Game number two, I like this game, simply because I’m curious to see what Mt. Vernon does this year. They took a big step forward last year under Cory Brunson. It’s Heritage Hills at Mt. Vernon, Chad, you have the Patriots.”

(Chad Lindskog)
“The defending PAC champion Patriots have high hopes this year. They went undefeated last regular season, scored 50 rushing touchdowns and won by an average of 36.2 points per game, including a big 45-7 win over Mount Vernon to kick everything off. With Cole Sigler back under center as the leading returning passer and rusher, Heritage Hills plans to use the same formula: run the ball and keep on winning.”

(Michael Gilbert)
“I don’t know if wildcats head coach, Cory Brunson, is a kareokee guy but he may be singing Miss You by the Rolling Stones. Mount vernon will miss not seeing Sam Thomas on the gridiron. Thomas carried their offense a season ago. The Wildcats still have QB Rhett Snodgrass at the gun but i think Mount Vernon has too many holes to fill this year. The Patriots take game one against the Cats.”

(Randall Parmley)
“Our final game of the night heads to Kentucky. The Colonels have been improving under Josh Boston while Reitz is looking to make a statement. Mike, you have Reitz.”

(Michael Gilbert)
“Reitz, in my own opinion, is one of our biggest mystery teams this season in regards of potential. The panthers have a lot to be hungry about. They won 6 games last season, they hadn’t had that low number of victories since 2004. They have a good group of young players hitting the field. I think Reitz wins their 6th straight against the Henderson County Colonels.”

(Chad Lindskog)
“After ending a string of four straight losing seasons, Henderson County wants to continue its climb as Josh Boston enters his fourth year as head coach. A good starting point would be to get their first win over Reitz since 2013, especially because these teams won’t see each other again for some time. We’ll find out Friday night how the new-look Colonels fare without four-year starter Skip Patterson as Sam Elliott takes over the quarterback position, though Logan Green is back at running back to build on a 1,000-yard season.”

(Randall Parmley)
“Thanks guys a lot to look forward to for the upcoming season. Chad, what games will you be covering for the Courier and Press.”

(Chad Lindskog)
“I will be covering North against Princeton on Friday night.”

(Randall Parmley)
” I like North this season I think they can really improve. That’s all for the Countdown, there is more news on Eyewitness after this quick timeout.”
