Home Team Friday Countdown: Week #12

Sports

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Home Team Friday’s countdown crew, Randall Parmley, Michael Gilbert and Zane Clodfelter break three of the Tri-State’s biggest games for week #12.

(RANDALL PARMLEY)
Good evening everybody, and welcome to week 12 of the Home Team Friday Countdown show. We are in full fledged playoff mode, Indiana & Kentucky, and finally Illinois. Now, all those local teams are in the playoffs.

We are going to concentrate on the Indiana sectional championships and the opening round in Kentucky tonight.

This week’s games are the 4A sectional championship game.
Memorial at Central
Southridge against Heritage Hills for the 3A title.
In Kentucky, it’s the opening round of the playoffs, Daviess County will be at Henderson County.

(RANDALL PARMLEY)
Let’s bring in the boy’s now. Mike and Zane Clodfelter. We will start in the 4A, Memorial and Central. The CO-SIAC champs playing for a spot in the regionals. Central won by a field goal in double OT in the regular, Mike, start us off.

(MICHAEL GILBERT)
The Tigers remember that game better than they hoped. Memorial will be looking for redemption in the 4A sectional championship. After that loss, Memorial has won three straight with their most recent victory coming off a 33-13 win over Boonville in the sectional semifinal. In that regular season game, Memorial gave up its second most points an opponent as of now. I expect John Hurley’s team to clean it up defensively, and looking to slow down the game to keep Central’s offense off the field. Colton Pence has to be a factor if the Tigers want to win.

(ZANE CLODFELTER)
Central’s three-point win in the regular season over Memorial happened because of the Bears’ defense, which forced six Tiger turnovers that night, including four interceptions. With that strong defense, Collins Turner did his part, finishing with 134 passing yards while adding 74 on the ground. The difference maker in the rematch could be Brennan Schutte, who is 73 rushing yards shy of 1,000 for the year. Look for him to get the ball early and often.

(RANDALL PARMLEY)
In 3A, it’s Heritage Hills and Southridge, another rematch game. Heritage Hills turned a close game into a blowout in the regular season. Zane, what do we expect at the Jungle this time around.

(ZANE CLODFELTER)
Heritage Hills had an impressive fourth quarter comeback last week to keep its undefeated season going and the team standing in the Patriots’ way of their 13th sectional title is Southridge, a team they beat by 35 points earlier this year. The Jungle should be rocking with this being Heritage Hills’ first postseason home game so look for Heritage Hills to start quickly, utilizing what has been an unstoppable running game.

(MICHAEL GILBERT)
Let’s talk Southridge. The Raiders have been pouring on the points as of late is averaging 53 points in their past two games.Coach Buening’s team will need that offensive to come alive against Heritage Hills defense. I spoke to their coach earlier today, starting quarterback Chase Taylor is slated to start, which could be a huge difference maker as he was out this season for some time with a collarbone injury. I think this one will be way closer than the regular season’s earlier contest.

(RANDALL PARMLEY)
“Our final game takes us to the bluegrass stae, where it’s the first round of the playoffs. In Class 6A, Daviess County at Henderson County. Mike, DC beat the Colonels in overtime just a few weeks ago, can they do it again tomorrow night.

(MICHAEL GILBERT)
It’s always tough to be a team a twice in one season, but the Panthers aren’t a long shot anymore. Daviess County has a better rhythem after starting the season oh and 3. The Panthers head into the postseason on a three game winning streak with victories against Henderson County, Apollo and then most recently Warren East. Look for tailback, Shane Riley to be at the center of their offense. Riley is a top 5, 6A running back with over 1 thousand 4 hundred yards. He will be one of the main parts in a potential panthers victory.

(ZANE CLODFELTER)
Henderson County gets the chance to avenge a three-point regular season loss against Daviess County in the first round of the 6A state tourney and they have a running back in Logan Green that can carry the load offensively. In 10 games, Green has over 1,000 yards rushing and six touchdowns and most impressively, he has accounted for 68 percent of the Colonels’ rushing production as Henderson County enters this game 7-3.

(RANDALL PARMLEY)
Again thank you guys so much, Home Team Friday airs at 10:35 on WEHT tomorrow night.
