Evening everybody and welcome to week 4 of the Home Team Friday Countdown. Michael and Chad Lindskog are standing by, ready to break down 3 of the biggest games on the schedule tomorrow night.
Tonight’s games are Castle at Central, North at Mater Dei and Jasper at Vincennes Lincoln. Lets bring in the crew and get right to it.
The big one in the SIAC tomorrow night will be at Central Stadium.
It’s Central and Castle.
Both teams are still perfect in conference play. Mike, get us started with Castle.
Man, does Home Team Friday have a great showdown for Friday.
Two teams that, as of late, seem to be hitting their stride.
Doug Hurt’s team has to be feeling good after their 37 to 0 win over Bosse. Nathan Harpenau had a couple of of nice touchdown passes in his last time out. If Castle wants to win, they will need their defense to play some significant football. In recent years, both these teams have not been shy of scoring the ball.
Limiting turnovers, penalties, and converting chances will be the three key’s for Castle to defeat the Bears at Central Stadium.
Did anyone overreact after Week 1? Since dropping their openers, both teams are riding three-game winning streaks and the Bears are coming off a pair of blowouts to open SIAC play. They also have won three straight against Castle, averaging 41 points per win. So look for Collins Turner to keep going deep to Tory and Tre’Jon Evans for big scores while the staunch Bears D tries to hold a fourth opponent in a row to single digits.
Game 2 is North at Mater Dei. Chad, you have the Huskies.
North changed its helmets this season from black to white as an homage to 1990s, back when they were winning sectional titles and consistently beating up on teams like Mater Dei.
The throwback look has seemingly worked considering they’re coming off a big win last week even their record at 2-2. Still, the Huskies only have three wins in this series since Mike Goebel took the opposing sideline in 1997. We’ll learn Friday which school has most improved.
While, Mater Dei feels like this should have had a win against Memorial at the Bowl, here’s the spin zone. The Wildcat’s can play both side of the balls. Here’s another question – can they produce consecutive weeks of good offense and defense. Coach Goebel’s has nice success against North
The Wildcats have won 11 straight against the Huskies. Quarterback, Cole Happe, I think has a nice bounce back contest
and puts up some serious numbers against a North defense that’s not been the most reliable.
Game 3 is Jasper at Vincennes Lincoln. Mike, you have Jasper.
In my opinion, this is a must win contest for Tony Lewis and Jasper.
Just for morale reasons. Jasper has been a tough opponent throughout 2019. Despite giving up 35 points to Memorial, this Wildcats defense is tough in their contests against Southridge and undefeated Heritage Hills. Plus, Lewis’ squad is trying to snap a two game losing streak to the Alices.
Gunnar Wyman’s famous tombstone stating, ‘I’d rather be here than in Jasper, Indiana’ captures the bitterness to this rivalry perfectly. He would be happy the Alices at least are home, but they’ve seriously struggled lately, leaving the Big 8 wide open. Vincennes is on a three game losing streak and has thrown nine interceptions the last two times out. So, while they’ve handed Jasper two straight Ls, they need to clean up their mistakes to make it three.
