Home Team Friday Countdown: Week 8

Sports

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Randall Parmley, Michael Gilbert & Zane Clodfelter discuss the biggest games in the Tri-State for week #8.

(RANDALL PARMLEY)
“We are discussing three games tonight, Central vs Mater Dei. We will look at North versus Castle. Finally, in the pocket, Tell City against Gibson Southern. Let’s bring in the guys now, let’s start in the SIAC. It’s central championship to lose now. The Bears are all alone in the first place with two to go. Meanwhile, Mater Dei has to win to stay in the race, Zane break it down for us.”

(ZANE CLODFELTER)
“Mike Goebel’s Mater Dei Wildcats are trying to build some momentum heading into the sectional later this month but it won’t come easy against SIAC leader Central. The Wildcats have lost three in a row in this series, however, John McGrew is a player to look out for if Mater Dei is going to break that streak. He’s rushed for over 500 yards so far this season and is coming off a four-touchdown performance against Bosse. Offense will be key with Mater Dei averaging 42 more points in victories as opposed to losses.”

(MICHAEL GILBERT)
“Central enters this contest picking up serious steam. They are fresh off a 23-20 double overtime win over Memorial. The Bears are a perfect 5-0 in conference play and while their offense gets the folks talking. The defense has put the clamps on opponents in 4 of their 7 games, Sean Coultis’ team has held opponents to 8 or less points. I like Central, they haven’t lost to Mater Dei since 2015.”

(RANDALL PARMLEY)
“Meanwhile in paradise, North may be the team to look out for in sectionals. That offense is very good and they just beat Reitz last weekend. Mike, can they keep the momentum going against Castle.”

(MICHAEL GILBERT)
“This is a chance for the SIAC pups to become Huskies. As North heads into week 8, they have won 3 of their last 4 games, and have done a good job scoring, playing some good offense, now they have a tall task ahead of them trying to snap a 17 game losing streak to Castle. The Huskies could have that happen this week. North is having one of its better seasons in a long time, and just defeated Reitz which is arguable one of their biggest victories in a while.”

(ZANE CLODFELTER)
“The Knights are still playing for a shot at the SIAC title but they’ll need to win out to keep those hopes alive. That means they’ll have some extra motivation against the improving Huskies. Doug Hurt’s Castle teams are 18-1 against North and in two meetings last season, Castle beat the Huskies by an average of 47 points. If Castle wants to keep that up, they’ll need to find Chase Wilkinson offensively. He’s the team’s leading receiver with six touchdowns and he also averages 16.9 yards per catch.”

(RANDALL PARMLEY)
“Our final game of the night is in the pocket, where Tell City has been the surprise team this season. Zane…Can the marksmen pick up a marquee win tomorrow in Fort Branch?”

(ZANE CLODFELTER)
“There’s a Renaissance going on with Marksmen football under coach Aaron Clements with Tell City entering this week 5-2. and that’s impressive when you consider the previous three seasons when Tell City won six games combined. The Marksmen have made an effort to keep the ball on the ground and with a back like Mitchell Foster, who averages 5.4 yards a carry, it’s been a recipe for success. With weather a likely issue tomorrow, I wouldn’t be surprised if Tell City doesn’t attempt a pass against the Titans. “

(MICHAEL GILBERT)
“Gibson Southern is licking their chops with this pending matchups. The Titans bounced back nicely after their 19-14 loss to Heritage Hills. Nick Hart’s team shut out Pike Central 74-0 last Friday. I see Brady Allen and that offense picking up right where they left off because Gibson Southern will be back at home too. Gibson Southern hasn’t loss to the Marksmen in the Nick Hart era and I see their win streak continuing against Tell City tomorrow night. “

(RANDALL PARMLEY)
“Thanks guys, Zane which game will you be covering?”

(ZANE CLODFELTER)
Boonville vs South Spencer

(RANDALL PARMLEY)
“Thank you guys, Home Team Friday airs tomorrow night.”
