CARMI, Ill. (WEHT) – Carmi-White County High School hits the gridiron looking for improvement after finishing last season with three wins.
The Bulldogs will need every player this year. The team rosters just 33 athletes. Even with the small group, head coach, Kurt Simon says he likes this core.
“Kids that we do have our quality and they work extremely hard and they play together. There’s probably a lot of kids that will never come off the field obviously with these low of numbers. But with the kids that we have. They want to be here. They are easily coached, easily motivated and with that being the case. We have a chance to be successful.”
A senior on the team, Eric Mills, understands this season, it may be more than the X’s and O’s. Mills explains the Bulldogs are entering 2019, with a tougher mindset.
“Our team mentality is to work harder than everybody us, to go hard as often as you can, and love the game of football. We know each other, it’s like a big family, so we can work well together and that makes us in a sense quality players because we mesh good.”
Ethan Mahon, another senior added, this squad has developed great relationships over the years.
“We all have a special bond and we like to work hard so by working together and be the best we can be. This really shows we can have a winning season. If we just put it all in, it can happen.”
Carmi will start their season on August 30th on the road against Vienna.
