HTF Two-A-Days: Mater Dei

Sports

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – (WEHT) Mater Dei enters the 2019 season with something they didn’t have much of last season: veteran experience.

The Wildcats return a handful of seniors, including Quarterback Cole Happe. With the core of players with varsity experience returning, expectations are high once again.

“They’re working hard and that’s a good indication that they have high expectations, and we have that as coaches. We do have some guys that have played, and they seem to be good with their energy level and really good as far as bringing younger players along so we can become the best we can be,” said Mater Dei head coach Mike Goebel. “They’re working hard right now, and that’s a great sign.”

The Wildcats hope their experience can help give them a boost from last year’s 6-6 season.

“There’s expectations on us, but I think we put that on ourselves because we know what we’re capable of. Last year we were a young team and this year we have a lot of seniors coming back, so that’s definitely gonna help us a lot, and I think everybody’s just ready to get into it,” said senior Cole Happe.

Mater Dei will kick off the season on August 24th against Indian Creek.
