WASHINGTON, Ind. (WEHT) – Washington sets its course for improvement this year. The Hatchets finished with a disappointing 1-9 record last season.
Just recently, their team made progress, posting a winning record back in 2016. When asked what motivates this team, head coach, Jake Durnil, explains it’s about getting back on track.
“Well last year we were a very young team. A lot a lot of people we were a JV team playing a varsity schedule. Now a lot of our puppies are juniors and seniors and last year a majority of our starters were sophomores. Learning day by day, game by game last year has really helped us this year, going into the 2019 season.”
The Hatchets hope to foster a better foundation for future programs. Senior, Brooks Robinson, explains it’s about entering practice with a better attitude.
“Work hard, come out here everyday as we should. Keep the hype up and make sure we never get down and keep fighting. We had a lot of young guys but now we are a lot older, more experienced which could bring some more game, some more fun.”
The Hatchets take on Boonville in their season opener.
