Local athletes complete 100-ton weightlifting challenge for a good cause

Sports

The second annual 100-ton challenge kicked off at the Pit Barbell Club on Monday, where local athletes challenged themselves to lift 100 tons over a series of machines.

Brandon Hayes, who completed the challenge last year, finished the challenge once again this year in under two hours. One-hundred tons is equivalent to the weight of about 11 elephants.

All proceeds from the challenge are donated to the local chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. There is also a donation match on all donations up to $3,000.
