CHARLOTTE (WEHT)- ESPN cameras caught a pregame fracas between University of Kentucky quarterback, Lynn Bowden Jr. and several Virginia Tech Hokies before Tuesday’s Belk Bowl in Charlotte.

Dick Gabriel of WLAP radio in Lexington and a UK-centric blog, Big Blue Insider, reported that a Virginia Tech player swung a “roundhouse punch” at a Kentucky assistant coach, but missed and at least one punch was thrown at Bowden Jr. It’s uncertain why the fight broke out, but the Roanoke Times reported that a verbal altercation happened when the two teams met at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte.

Earlier in the week, Bowden Jr refused to comment about Virginia Tech or the incident. Overall, the Wildcats have an historic advantage over the Hokies, winning 11 of their 19 matchups, though the two teams haven’t played since 1987.
