Mater Dei is picking up right where they left off last season. They have started 4-0 for the second consecutive year. The Wildcats return a solid team with senior experience. The team is eyeing a sectional championship this year but understand it’s a journey to get there.

“We feel like we have a pretty deep group, and it leads to competitive practices and guys know they have to earn their playing time. It’s going to be a really difficult sectional from top to bottom. For us, we are trying to prepare for ourselves. Right now, we are playing pretty good basketball, and I think we are off to a good start but we have a long way to go.”

(JONAH WEINZAPFEL)
“There’s definitely a chip on our shoulder, you can see it out here in practice, everyone is comeptiting against each other, fighting for minutes. I think we are really going to try to get back there, and try to win it this time.”

(JACKSON HIESTER)
“We think we can go pretty far this year, but it doesn’t matter what we think, it matters what we can prove. Obviously we have a lot of seniors. I think that fuels us because it’s our last year and we want to do the best we can.”

(MICHAEL GILBERT)
Mater Dei will try to season the season 5-0 for the first time in 19 years. Up next, the Wildcats take on Mt. Vernon. Reporting from Mater Dei, Michael Gilbert, Home Team Friday.
