EVANSVILLE, Ind. – (WEHT) For the third straight season, Memorial football is headed back to Lucas Oil Stadium for the state championship. The Tigers advanced to the 4A State title game after defeating Mount Vernon Fortville 28-3 on Friday night.
The Tigers led 7-3 in the first half before turning up the heat in the second half. Josh Russell scored two touchdowns in the second half for the Tigers.
“If I was to tell you at the beginning of the year, I thought we would be here I would be lying, but I thought we would have a chance to compete,” said Head Coach John Hurley. “For them to have this opportunity, it’s exciting.”
“It was a heart of this team, the heart is insane. I mean, we are just grinding everyday, and we wanted to go back to State because we didn’t want this culture to die.” said Colton Pence.
“This is the greatest feeling in the whole world, knowing that we’re going back to State, I just can’t believe this right now.” said Brock Combs.
Memorial will now face East Noble (14-0) on Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium in the 4A State Championship. Game time is set for 2:30 CT.
