Memorial girls off to a fast start

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Memorial’s girls basketball team has a new look this year. New head coach, Lee Auker, is at the reigns and has helped lead the Tigers to 6-0 start.

Memorial returns 8 letter winners to their team and hope to make a deep postseason run says head coach, Lee Auker.

“Gibson Southern knocked us off last year and they know that. It left a sour taste in our (team’s) mouth and that’s after we won several sectionals in a row with Coach Dockery. So they all know what that sectional is like and they have a lot of experience and they are excited to get back there and want to make a change for sure.”

Junior, Peyton Murphy, explains the squad is motivated from last year’s sectional championship and believes their team has enough weapons to be successful on the court.

“We are extremely motivated. Coach Dockery, always emphasized to play with a chip on your shoulder, so we have taken that personally and we have all executed really well this season. We are really aggressive and really deep, Plus, it’s a lot of fun have the bench suppport you whenever you are on. We are a very good group of girls and executing very well.”

Memorial plays tomorrow afternoon.
