Mt. Carmel will leave the Big 8 sooner rather than later. Due to a new Illinois high school football rule, the Golden Aces will have to begin playing district games.

That’s a problem for Big 8 membership.

On Wednesday, the conference voted to remove Mt. Carmel from the league after the 2020 school year, due to the Golden Aces inability to continue playing a full conference schedule.

Mt. Carmel then announced it would leave the conference at the end of the current school year, citing scheduling problems.

Mt. Carmel has been in the Big 8 since 2003.
