Newburgh man competes in virtual ax throwing competition


EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Newburgh’s Kyle Rickenbaugh is making the most of the COVID-19 outbreak. He and other athletes all across the world, are participating in an ax throwing competition using social media.

The Jasper, Indiana native competed in the Isolation Open on Saturday, part of the Quarantine Ax Throwing League (QATL). This new league is the alternative to the coronavirus crisis. The quarantine league has over 350 athletes. People compete against each other from all across the world using social media platforms.

Rickenbaugh says he enjoyed his unique experience despite the current climate.

“I come across this quarantine ax throwing league and I don’t even think I finished reading the post, and jumped on it, and I signed up and registered.This was huge for me because to get back to some normalcy back because I had been throwing everyday for over a year now. It’s super fun and it’s really great now to not just sit at home and watch TV like most people are doing. It’s really great to be able to participate and compete against others on a world wide level.”
