Newburgh Woman Has Special Connection With Olympic Event

Newburgh resident Ana Holland Krawec’s father was involved in the Olympics for 40 years.

John Francis Holland passed away this past December, but prior to his death, he was a staple in the summer games’ pentathlon event.

Holland was an alternate in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne, Australia. After his stint as an alternate, he was an official for the pentathlon later in life.

The pentathlon is a unique Olympic event that features swimming, fencing, riding, running and shooting. And even with her father’s passing, Ana Holland Krawec stays active in the pentathlon community.
