OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) – Michael Gilbert reports on the Owensboro Red Devils as Jay Fallin’s team prepares for their 5A regional championship game on Friday night against Fairdale.
“It feels like Deja Vu for Owensboro. The Red Devils made it to the regional championship last year but fell short to South Warren. This year though, it’s a diferent game, a different location and different season. Jay Fallin’s team feels a little bit of a chip on their shoulder but their motivated heading into Friday’s contest.”
“These guys have really embraced the chip on their shoulder mentality and coming to practice everyday determined to prove we are a good football team and we are ready to compete with anyone in the state, we are excited for another opportunity to do that on Friday. Preparation breeds confidence, and we feel if we prepare as well as we can as a staff, and with a great game plan, plus our kids come to work and practice as hard as they can, we will confident going into the game. We have had a really good week of practice, and we need to finish up a good one today.”
The team still has lingering effects from last year’s regional title defeat. The Red Devils are turning last season’s disappointing end into something they built off for this season.
“It plays a big part in our motivation this year, just to go back and try to finish what we didn’t finish last year. That does play a big role in how focus we are this year. We have like a chip on our shoulder, we feel like we have to prove something.”
“We have a lot of momentum, everyone is stoked, everybody is hyped up and we are just ready to go and play. When we lost last year, we were all sad, it was just sad last year, but we aren’t going out like that this year though.”
“Owensboro hosts Fairdale tomorrow night at Rash Stadium. The Red Devils are looking for their first regional championship victory since 2014. Reporting from Owensboro’s practice, Michael Gilbert, Home Team Friday.”
