Every year, the SIAC is jam-packed with spectacular athletes. After each season, the SIAC selects the athletes who excel in their sports as well as in the classroom and the community.

The 2017 Athletes of the Year were announced on Sunday at the annual Celebration of Champions. Bosse’s Kiara Bailey won the SIAC Female Athlete of the Year, while Castle’s Jack Nunge and Mater Dei’s Kurtis Wilderman were the first ever co-winners for SIAC Male Athlete of the Year.

Kiara Bailey excelled in soccer, basketball, and track at Bosse and will play soccer at USI.

Jack Nunge was a standout basketball star for the Knights and the runner-up for Indiana’s Mr. Basketball. He will play basketball at the University of Iowa.

Kurtis Wilderman was a three-sport athlete for the Wildcats, excelling at football, wrestling, and baseball and receiving scholarship offers in all three sports. Wilderman will be attending Indiana State to play football.

The winners each received a trophy for the honor.
