Tigers eyeing third straight trip to state

Sports

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – It’s semi-state week and that means just one win separates teams in Indiana from a trip to Lucas Oil Stadium.

And once again – a familiar team is in the mix – Memorial High School.

As the Tigers gear up for their third straight appearance in semi-state, they’re hoping to get back in the state championship next week.

Last Friday, the Tigers looked very good against Mooresville.

Another tough test against Mount Vernon Fortville is all that stands in their way from a repeat trip to Indy.

John hurley says it will be a battle, but his guys are ready for the challenge.

“Coming into the season, you know, you never know what to think. There’s gonna be some things that fall into place, and we knew we had some cats to replace. But I knew we had a good group of young men coming back, and what an opportunity they have this week. The opportunity is to get another week, and you have got to do everything Friday night to make that happen.”

“It’s just means a lot to everybody, especially being able to have the chance to have the semi state title and then going to state three years in a row, I mean it’s awesome. It’s just a great feeling. It just shows how much we are fighters and how much we love to go out there and compete.”

“It was different at the beginning of the season. It was kinda felt weird not having the presence of those older guys again, and we were the older guys. So, it’s nice filling in the big roles, and it’s something special with these guys doing what we have accomplished this year. You know at some point the season is gonna be done and hopefully it’s not this week.”

And the Tigers will be at Enlow field for the second week in a row. They’ll kick things off against Mount Vernon Fortville at 7PM on Friday.
