OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) – The Crossfit Rugrat athletes are stronger than most kids their age, nearly doubling their weight on every lift. The six team members have a chance to prove themselves at the USA Weightlifting National Youth Championships in Ahaheim California in three weeks.

“So excited, I mean, I have never been to california, especially that area, in Anaheim, I know there’s going to be a lot of cool stuff. On top of that, this is really my first nationals where I could podium.”

A unique pair mentors the group. It’s a father-daughter duo, and the two coaches push them past their limits.Timothy Davis agrees.

“It’s really helpful because he likes does a lot for me. It’s really fun because we get to lift and workout together.”

Each athlete ranks number one in their respective divisions. Head coach, Karina Delgadillo, wants to bring home six national titles.

“The fact they have made it this far, that they haven’t quit, just because it got hard or it got heavy, or they had a bad meet. That they just reset themselves and they got ready to go again.”
