EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – USI men’s basketball are still in contention for the GLVC championship with two games left in the regular season.
The Screaming Eagles are playing some of their best basketball of the season right now. Southern Indiana has won a season high 7 games in a row.
This puts Rodney Watson’s team one game out of first place in the GLVC. An enormous feat considering the type of talent USI lost to graduation last year. Head coach, Rodney Watson, says they are motivated to finish the season with more than just accolades.
“Every athlete wants to play for something, everyone wants to play for trophies, these guys don’t want participation medals. So, it’s always outstanding to see teams play for conference championships, and maybe a national championship.”
Meanwhile, the team has bought into the mentality. USI thinks they have significant momentum heading into their final pair of games says Joe Laravie.
“That’s the reason I came here. USI has a winning tradition. If you don’t want to win, you do not want to come here. So that’s what the goal is. I think we are pretty are best basketball right now. We have everybody coming back at the right time. Kobe came back, Cheese came back, we are hitting our stride at the right spot.”
USI men will be at Bellarmine on Thursday. The Eagles close out the regular season at home on Saturday taking on U-Indy.
