NEWBURGH, Ind. (WEHT) – It is not all about the pros this week at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by United Leasing & Finance.
This afternoon some of the best high school golfers in the Tri-State had a chance to take a few swings at Victoria National.
Gibson Southern senior, Claire Jones, says she this will be a great memory of hers.
“It’s just going to be an awesome experience, just getting to watch them all and see how good they are and hopefully I can get some good tips.”
The varsity shootout gives high school players a chance to play at Victoria National. Memorial senior, Mallory Russell, explains how thrilled she was when her coaches picked her to compete.
“Both my coaches from last year nominated me to play in this and it was just awesome. I was so happy that they felt so highly of me that they would want me to represent Memorial
for this event.”
The golf pros are happy to be apart of this event as well. Jimmy Stanger says it’s a break from his usual routine.
“It’s kind of getting back to the roots of golf in this bubble out here where it can be so cutthroat when others are trying to shoot the lowest score possible. I think today we are going to try to play good golf. It gets back to the meaning and purpose of golf. Which is to inspire young kids to do the best they can in whatever they do.”
Castle’s Adam Bratton won the event.
