911 Gives Hope for the Holidays toy drive underway

uncategorized

Evansville, In (WEHT) Ringing in the christmas season is the annual 911 gives hope for the holidays toy drive at the eastside walmart parking lot this weekend.

Our media partners at Townsquare radio as well as law enforcement and fire fighters host the annual event.

This is the 11th year for the drive. When the drive first formed, it was to deliver toys to children in the hospital during Christmas.

Now it’s so popular, hospital staff says they have enough toys to give out to children all year long.

Evansville Police Chief Billy Bolin says it makes a child’s day for a staff member at the hospital to be able to go to the toy closet and find a toy to give to help cheer up the child. He says something as simple as a stuffed toy can help the child forget why they are even in the hospital.

Santa will also be there each day from noon until six for pictures.

The drive ends at six Sunday evening.
