City of Evansville wants to improve historic buildings with Facade Grant Program

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Evansville developers want historic buildings to get a face-lift and they’re willing to pay owners to do it.

The city is launching a Historic Commercial Façade Grant Program.

$100,000 is available for commercial buildings in the Promise Zone.

It’s mostly areas in the central part of the city in need of development.

Officials want to revitalize buildings more than 40 years old with a new front.

Metro Development Director, Kelley Coures, hopes to award at least five or six buildings.

“There are buildings on Main Street that are 100 years old but resemble in many ways what they did 100 years ago. It’s just they’re modernized; they have new technology built into them.”

Grant applications are available with the city.

Coures expects to award the winners by December.

Applicants can also contact Christine Prior, Project Manager, at cprior@evansville.in.gov or 812-436-4555.
