Rocks thrown from I-64 overpass damage 20 vehicles

FAIRFIELD, Ill. (WEHT) – Illinois authorities say 20 vehicles have been damaged from falling rocks on Interstate 64.

A deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said the rocks didn’t fall naturally. The deputy tells Eyewitness News, juveniles were dropping rocks on vehicles from two overpasses.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said the overpasses were at the 92 and 94 mile markers of I-64.

The reports of rocks hitting cars came in around 11:30 Wednesday night.

The juveniles involved were taken into custody before being returned to their parents.
