Will new Costco change Tri-State shopping trips?

Two very similar stores are now in very close proximity to each other.
Both charge members an annual fee, and offer products in wholesale or bulk. So will shoppers be switching up their shopping trips?

EVANSVILLE, In. (WEHT) — There is a new option for shoppers in the Tri-state, after “Costco” opened its doors Friday at their brand new location on Cross Pointe Boulevard on Evansville’s east side.
But could this mean a shift in shopping habits?

“Today’s my birthday, so this is my birthday present, the opening of Costco!”

Tom O’Hagan says that is a great birthday gift, and he was not the only one celebrating in the parking lot on Friday.

“Couldn’t wait!” said Joyce Allen of Evansville.

For some, like John Carter and his wife Connie, it was too hard to wait to get home.
“These Jonny Pops are really good!”
“He ate two!”

Others have been counting down to the opening.
“We’ve been preparing for it,” said Melody Calhoun of Henderson.

Amanda: Think it’s going to be worth it?
“Well, I don’t know, I haven’t been in yet.”
BUT SOME SAY — THERE IS NO QUESTION.
(SHEILA O’HAGAN, HOPKINSVILLE KY)
I got out of work early to come up here to Costco today. It’s great!”
THERE ARE EVEN THOSE THAT RELOCATED TO THE TRI-STATE — AND HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR COSTCO TO CATCH UP WITH THEM.

“The opening of Costco puts two warehouse clubs within one mile of each other here in Evansville. So we wanted to know — is this going to change customers’ shopping habits?
(CALHOUN)
Amanda: Are you Sam’s Club member at all?
“Yes, I am as well.”
Amanda: Do you plan to keep that membership?
“Yes.”
(SHEILA O’HAGAN)
“mmmmmm….no.”
(ROBESON)
Amanda: If you like it here, are you going to keep a Sam’s Club membership?
I don’t know. Maybe.
(JOYCE)
I like Costco better than Sam’s.”
Amanda: But you’re going to keep them both?
I’m going to keep them both.”
(JOHN & CONNIE CARTER, EVANSVILLE)
Well, my son told me I couldn’t have both! But I told him he wasn’t in charge! (laughter)
